
The chiusini, fleeing from the Barbarian invasion, founded this charming little town in the 6th century and called it Mons Politianus, which explains why its inhabitants are known as poliziani or "politians."
Montepulciano, Antonio da Sangallo's masterpiece, is as nobile as its wine. Its Palazzo Communale is a miniature version of Florence's Palazzo Vecchio, and it's Piazza Grande is called by many, the prettiest in all Italy.
