- Great Product
Just like what everybody suggested, I set it all up on my living room floor and made sure everything worked including phone access. Then the hard part, drilling thru stucco and actually installing the cameras. I actually just installed 4 of the eight cameras and completely satisfied with it (maybe the other four for spare or when I had the chance). It was so exciting especially when the first two cameras in my door entrances because the cameras was pointed perfect with no adjustment needed. Pictures was clear and night vision is b/w but visible.
- A very good system
A review of the Swann Pro-series 8 channel camera system. In a consumer electronics industry there are dozens of home security systems that range in price from a couple of hundred to thousands, so what is the best for the money and where and who should you go to. That was my problem. I have a security system in my home that has door sensors, motion sensors, glass breakage, smoke alarms, and carbon monoxide detectors, but with smash and grab burglary, the bad guy has at least two minutes, and I have no record of who it was if indeed I get hit. What about the outside of my house, my cars and out building? So, what do you need where bigger is better. Do you really need HDTV cameras, a 5 TB hard drive? Do you want a completely wireless system? Which features are a 'must have' and which are
- DVR Camera system
Product looks easy to install, however, you have to be able to move freely within your attic and may need extra cable to connect a camera(s), if you have a large home. I suggest buying extra cables so you have them on hand should you need them and the provided cables not reach the DVR location you selected.
- Adequate system and easy to install, no instruction manual though
We already had a Night Owl 4 camera system but wanted more cameras so decided to buy this one for the house and put the other in the garage.
The wiring on this one is better quality but are still using the wiring from the other system since it is already there. The cameras that came with this system are good in that they have a wider view. But they also have a bit of a fish eye distortion with the wider view and are a bit grainy. The color is fair, but better than the Night Owl cameras. But the Night Owl cameras have better clarity. A combination of the wider view cameras and the better picture works for us though.
I do wish there was a manual instead of just having to search through the menu and figure it out for ourselves. I still haven't figured out how to search the video history.
The one thing I really dislike about this system, and the reason for a 4 star instead of 5, is that there is a gap of 4 seconds every 2 minutes.
Another thing this system doesn't have is anything that alerts you that something triggered the cameras. Or if it does, I haven't been able to find it BECAUSE THERE IS NO MANUAL.
I would really like to have a manual to explain what this system does.
- Good system. Tedious set-up.
Overall, I am pleased with the system for the price. I didn't want anything too fancy or pricey. Pros: The cameras are small and inconspicuous when mounted under the eave of the roof. The camera picture is great in daylight and adequate enough in night vision. Facial recognition is possible with zoom feature in daylight mode. The cameras are wired to plug & play and the system can go online for remote monitoring. The DVR is compact enough to fit in a structured wiring box (in wall). I chose this method to conceal the system and all the wiring for added security. Cons: The kit does not come with an instruction manual, so the basic set up is confusing and difficult. The set-up wizard is antiquated and needs to be upgraded to be more user friendly. The wiring included for the cameras are only 100 ft. long. Extra wiring must be bought for longer runs. The kit should have included the necessary adapters to connect additional wiring from an unused camera(s). Despite the minor drawbacks, I feel confident the system will prove effective.
- Works great.
I bought this system except I got 8 cameras with mine. The DVR is the same one and the cameras are the same cameras so I can review this system as well. First off, you have to realize this has 4 wired cameras so you will need to run these wires. Not a biggie, just be aware that you will need to do some work to install them. Secondly, if you have Dish or DirecTV as your internet provider, you will not be able to view any images on your tablet once you get out of range of your wireless router at home. This was not a problem with me since there is a lot of negative aspects to satellite internet and I was aware of the problem. One thing I had to deal with is after installing the system, I got random HDD errors once in awhile. (Once or twice a day on average.) I cured the problem by re-initializing the HDD. It is easy and fast to do so it was no problem and took about 30 seconds. The images are clear, but do not expect to read license plates from more than 30 or so feet. You'd have to pay double or triple for a system to get that and 1080p cameras are not designed for that, anyway. I found the software that comes with the system to be easy to learn and use and appears to support all of the capability of the system. After a month of usage, the software has not crashed once. I do reboot the system once or twice within every two week period. It is essentially a computer and I do that with my desktop as well. I am able to see the camera images on my desktop and tablet and my wife uses her smartphone to view the images. The biggest strength to this system, for me, is the ability to know when someone enters my property (about an acre). This system will warn you if this happens. I am happy with the system and would recommend it.
