Customer Reviews 5 item(s)
- Excellent product
What can you say, it does exactly what it states it will. I was dubious with all the negative reviews but ignore them, it is a great camera with fantastic picture quality and good night vision. People moaned about the touch screen but calibrate properly and it works fine. Thoroughly read all instructions (which goes against the grain for me) and you will get the best out of it. Definitely link it to your home network for best results. Helpline is good if you need it.
All in all a fantastic product which does the job admirably.
- Don't understand why so many negative reviews !!
I just bought this system along with a second camera to go with it and it's fantastic !!!!
Build quality for something of this price is very good. Setup is fairly simple, but you do need to follow all the steps carefully, its not a 30 second out-the-box job in my opinion. Setup in Station mode where it's configured to your home network enhances the signal and reception significantly to each camera.
I needed a little help on the 'phone from the Swann Support line to open up a port on my router but they too were brilliant, polite and effective.
My only advice - READ THE INSTRUCTIONS PROPERLY AND FOLLOW THEM TO THE LETTER and you'll get the best from it. With respect I think that perhaps some of the negative reviewers have not done this.
- Good Unit well featured interface hard to figure out as a Beginner
It is well featured,,,, this is another way of saying it is a pain to figure out.
The screen is hard to press, which is fine you get used to it, there is no way to move the cursor, you cannot change the keypad size as is too small. It takes a bit of getting used to.
I spent about an hour trying to figure out why my camera wouldn't work only to find finally that I had it in station mode.
It is worth mentioning that the camera is wireless but works ok for small distance, if you want to use it longer distance YOU WILL need to set up network cable to routers to do it.
There is no manual supplied, there is no manual on the internet I could find, THERE IS no troubleshooting, or what do I do if this or that doesn't work....... On the supplied CD only two pages of quick install manual, which is nice as it makes it looks simple but it lakes ANY DETAIL.
SWANN should have done there homework on the interface and instructions of the unit, by giving it out to 100 dumb people to try and install themselves and then report how to improve it.
There should be a schematic of a typical install, which also shows how it will be typically installed, either wirelessly or with network cables and routers etc. This would have helped a lot to understand that for example my monitor will not send out email wirelessly it actually has to be connected to the computer, and for example you can't do network cable cameras and wireless at the same time.
Now that I have spent about 2 1/2 hours on it I can say it is all good, but if you are looking for an easy plug and play solution this may not be it, it takes a while to figure out.
It probably goes with something that is a good system, but the process feels like a bit of a pain to figure out.
My app will not connect to the unit with the password and username, and my networked computer would not either. Will try and continue to troubleshoot.
- Ok but quirky
Do not rely on your wireless router to handle all of these. Depending on the distance from the router you might need to use a wifi access point and locate it near the camera, it will then retransmit back to the main router. Also if you experience flashing of the picture during daytime this has something to do with it cycling between night vision. To fix this just set your system to reboot daily (I have mine rebooting at 5am) that seems to have fixed the cycling between nightvision and day.
- Not all it's cracked up to be.
Firstly setting them up for use on our wifi network:
The User interface is set up in a way that all check boxes are either white or black with white signifying it's checked. However on the sync page white boxes require a tick in them to be checked. The lack of continuity in the UI did cause some issues in the setup.
Once set up we have had a couple cameras dropping off the network every few mins dispite very good wifi signal.
That aside they are as a whole working with no other issues.
