Swann’s Floodlight Security Camera is one of the most versatile and value for money floodlight cameras on the market today. Part security camera, part security light, the Floodlight Security Camera is a great standalone security system or addition to your home security. With top-of-the-line features such as dimmable light brightness, two-way audio, heat sensing technology, cloud and local recording, and remote viewing, this versatile security system helps you actively prevent crime and keep your home and business safe. We’re proud to share it consistently performs well in consumer reviews, however, we recently found a recurring issue that we would like to proactively address.
We have identified an issue impacting Android customers using the Floodlight Security Camera and SAFE by Swann app. Unfortunately, the problem appears to be caused by a change in the Android OS.
As a result, certain pages in the SAFE by Swann app are sized larger than the screen and will not scroll, thus preventing the app from working effectively on Android devices. Additionally, the pairing process is affected, meaning users may even be unable to connect their camera to begin using it.
Swann’s customer support and product teams have been working hard to identify the cause and find a solution to the problem. The issue appears to be caused by a change in the Chromium code, which is the basis of all web content displayed in Chrome and therefore within Android in general. (Chromium bug report). As the bug is an issue within the Android OS, the issue cannot be easily fixed by Swann. We understand this is a great inconvenience and will keep you updated as we learn more. In the meantime, please note the following workarounds to continuing using your Floodlight Security Camera:
Prevent Chrome from rendering the content in the app.
To do so, please follow the below steps:
- Disable the Chrome application in your phone settings
- Disable the Android System WebView component in your phone settings
*Note: If either the Chrome application or Android System WebView are marked as ‘System’ or ‘Core’ in the Android version on your particular phone, the option to Disable will not be available, and this workaround will be ineffective.
Reduce the font size in the phone settings – can allow for enough of the page to display, allowing customers to use the app. To change your phone’s font size settings, please do the following:
- Navigate to the Font Size or equivalent (Page Zoom, Zoom, etc.) setting in your phone’s Display Settings.
- Reduce the sizing to the minimum allowed.
We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and thank you for your patience while our teams work to update the code as soon as possible.
